| Born in 1973, China . She received a B.A in Chinese Literature from Zhejiang Teacher's University, then worked in Wenzhou TV centre for 6 years as a TV journalist and documentary producer. From 2000-2001, Li Tao studied at the Victoria University of Wellington receiving a Post Graduate Diploma of Arts in Film Studies. She also completed teacher's college in Wellington . Li spent several years in doing research on teengage international students while she worked as an international student advisor and teacher in Wellington . This culminated in the 2 hour documentary " Waves: The Diaries of Chinese International Students in New Zealand ", produced by Li Tao. This film was entered into the 2006 New Zealand International Film Festival and also the 2007 New Zealand World Cinema Showcase. voted as "Top Ten" in New Zealand and screened in 10 cities . In 2007, the Chinese Version of 'Waves' screened on the Shanghai Documentary Channel and was commented by Chinese a leading newspaper as " the first film reflecting Chinese international students' overseas life truthfully".
Li Tao is currently teaching in Fudan University, Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts. She is also a writer, having published three books : New Zealand : The Untouched World (2005, Jinan University Press), The Diaries of Chinese International Students In New Zealand (2006, Jinan University Press) and Li Tao: A journey of New Zealand (2007, Jinan University Press).
